I was due to retire in two years now have to wait till 2017 an extra three an a half years as Iwas born after april 1953 life is a bummer.

What i cant understand is that it must be cheaper to pay a pension than benefits to a yong married couple. So why raise the retirement age if anything they should lower it. Thus freeing up jobs for the youngsters with families.

The reason for raising it is that the current rate of growth in tax take coupled with increasing life expectancy means the state cannot afford to pay pensions at 65. On current forecasts there is a fair chance pension ages will continue to rise over the next decade or so

As far as I am concerned they can put up the retirement age as much as they like- I intend to keep working.
