At the end of the day Colin, people vote with their feet. If they want atmosphere, they'd inhabit a local boozer. If they want homely service they'd visit little independent shops. People are drawn to big commercial empires, the Tescos, the Asdas, the Weatherspoons. I think we covered this elsewhere on the forum some time ago when discussing the downfall of the high street to the giant out-of-town superstores and online shopping. Pretty much the same thing with Weatherspoons I'd imagine.
By the way did you know that you can now buy all your booze from Amazon online?
