  each as dead as a doormat
  each poisoned, he supposed
  
  closer inspection swept this thought
  away and clean out from his brain
  of their set dinners they'd ate not
  on fork or knife there was no stain
  
  to the manager he now turned
  and gave the third degree
  how long since you first learned
  of this before you called for me
  
  these ladies must have met their fate
  some time before you 'phoned
  there's no warmth from food or plate
  such delay can't be condoned

  the Coroner declared
  long non-use of denture
  was the gossip aired
  
  Let this stern lesson be
  to all who go abroad to dine
  the bill is not the only fee
  nor indigestion the only fine.
