  Again Keith, not taking anything away from what a PCSO does, but what you describe is exactly what old style beat coppers would do.
  
  By walking the streets they too built those relationships in the same way you have. The difference is where the crims or yobs/ladettes may tell you to, "go forth and multiply", and you can't do anything, a police constable most certainly can take action.
  
  In short, PCSO's are doing the job we want the police to be doing instead of whizzing around in fast cars or on motorbikes. They are far too removed from those they serve.
