Incidentally in a few weeks I am attending the Fortifications at Risk symposium and hope to get some insights and ideas into what can be done. No where in the UK is there anything quite to the scale of what Dover has !
'Fortifications at Risk 2' will be held on 5th and 6th March 2013 in order to consider further how derelict fortifications may be preserved and re-used. In this second symposium emphasis will be placed on considering the practical aspects of how such fortifications can be re-used without these structures losing their historical integrity. Speakers from heritage bodies in the UK and from overseas, local groups involved with specific fortifications and architect practices will describe the problems they have faced and the solutions employed in preserving and re-using fortifications.
