Fortunately Howard they are a reasonably bright bunch and there are very similarly structured organisations about running successful infrastructure projects elsewhere in the country. If the choice was only as you put it Howard, and how Mr. Vic would like it, then the port would have been in foreign ownership for a year by now with even more redundancies of local staff whilst the new owners began the book bolstering in preparation for an 'internal group reorganisation' followed shortly thereafter by an on-sale at an inflated price.
With a very large number of individual submissions from private individuals, each a bit different from the others, the issue was not at the bottom of the tray but was taking some time to properly consider each submission. Remembering that the whole process was held up whilst we waited for the DHB to make a revised proposal which, in the end, still failed to meet the revised criteria. The consultation period closed only a few weeks ago.
I also hope that the decision comes reasonably soon, but I'd rather a delayed decision than one which sells Dover short today and betrays its future forever.
