Theresa Villiers was the minister at the Department for Transport who was going to make the decision about the privatisation of the port. With her promotion to Secretary of State for Northern Ireland one presumes we are in for another period of indecision on the future of the port.

Looks like the port will stay in the Royal Charter where it should be,get rid of the old DHB get new faces one or two from our Town maybe, a updated royal Charter.

How's about Gov. making a most final decision, Martin, so we can have it all behind us!

i have serious doubts that the politicos and their civil servant advisers really understand the dppt presentation.
it is hardly a regular thing in this country, should the choice be to privatise or leave things as they are then it would be easily understood.
the last minister put it in the bottom of her in tray i suspect the new incumbent will do likewise, the loser being the town and surrounds of dover due to investors giving us a wide berth until the issue is settled.

I know it is crying out for stability Howard, but do we trade off transient stability for what is genuinely good for the future of the town? The irony of the situation ,Martin ,is that Mr Sloggett could now be deemed to have been more forward thinking than the current incumbent.

Fortunately Howard they are a reasonably bright bunch and there are very similarly structured organisations about running successful infrastructure projects elsewhere in the country. If the choice was only as you put it Howard, and how Mr. Vic would like it, then the port would have been in foreign ownership for a year by now with even more redundancies of local staff whilst the new owners began the book bolstering in preparation for an 'internal group reorganisation' followed shortly thereafter by an on-sale at an inflated price.
With a very large number of individual submissions from private individuals, each a bit different from the others, the issue was not at the bottom of the tray but was taking some time to properly consider each submission. Remembering that the whole process was held up whilst we waited for the DHB to make a revised proposal which, in the end, still failed to meet the revised criteria. The consultation period closed only a few weeks ago.
I also hope that the decision comes reasonably soon, but I'd rather a delayed decision than one which sells Dover short today and betrays its future forever.

The Government has to make a decision, we have to move on.
We need to have this decision behind us. This cannot go on any longer!

Unfortunately the market place and Treasury will make the decision...they do not
take any notice of consultation or alternatives.........
Jonathan Sloggett is a neighbour and friend of ours and it would be excellent to
have him at the helm at this time but like a few of us is enjoying a well earned semi-
retirement.
Both he and Bill Fawcus are men of integrity and men you can trust...........
