    Tom those posts are aligned with the openings in the pavement railings. Hard to explain.. ermmm..the railings have gaps in them for easy access to the promenade for those crossing the road. These posts are featured and aligned to the gaps all the way up along the seafront..what they accomplish I dont know for sure, but there they are. They may have been introduced as markers for those using the cycle lane.
