16:1482569Sorry to hear of everyone who is suffering with colds, flu etc. at this time. Here is a recipe for some soothing mixture, which I have tried and find very EFFECTIVE ....
KENTISH REMEDY FOR SORE THROATS AND COUGHS -
3-dessertspoons honey and 3 dessertspoons vinegar; mix these two with half a wineglassful of hot water.
Add 3-dessertspoons of brandy.
You can, if desired, dilute with a little more water.
SIP ONLY A LITTLE AT A TIME .....
"Vinegar cuts the phlegm and brandy opens the pores in the throat" Very soothing.

yet another of your recipes/remedies that necessitates the use of alcohol.
i always find that whisky and hot water helps bring on sleep, which is a vital part of the recovery process.
when i was a kid it was always honey and lemon, i suppose that the vinegar would do the same job as the lemon but taste a lot worse.

16:5682580This recipe (compared to the Cake one) actually works and I have used this many times - it tastes good too !! even with the vinegar -
I expect whisky would be equally effective !

19:2082607I swear by night nurse. As much as i love a tot of whisky or Brandy i find Night nurse aids in giving me a deeper less congested sleep. As for remedies to get me through the day i just take paracetamol. If you look at the ingrediants for lemsip etc the main drug in those is paracetamol.

19:4782616Lol Howard. It does do it's job well. I always feel tons better in the morning. I forgot to mention that Vicks vapo rub and a hot water bottle helps too. the vapo rub not only helps breathing but also keeps the cats off the bed. those feline friends of mine always hog the heat source. lol

20:4582645i have heard different views on honey, some say it is only a more pleasant way of sweetening things than sugar.
then you see things like manuke honey from new zealand going for a small fortune in health food shops.

20:4882646honey is one of natures great gifts - even ordinary honey has antiseptic properties,
also much better than mag sulph as a drawing agent

21:5182674My favourite remedy, whiskey, honey, lemon and hot water it might not get rid of a cold but is the tastiest remedy I know and certainly helps me sleep.
