REGISTER OF ELECTORS
Dover District Council is reminding residents that the annual canvass for the Register of Electors is currently taking place. Every property in the district has received a form for the Register of Electors that should be checked. If there are no changes to the registration form, you can use the freephone or internet registration service, which allows you to confirm all your household's details in a matter of minutes. The system is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the registration period. Alternatively if changes are necessary the form should be altered where needed, signed and returned in the envelope provided. It is particularly important that you return your form promptly this year to ensure your vote at the forthcoming Parliamentary Election.
All British, Irish, European Union or qualifying Commonwealth citizens over the age of 16 are required to give their names and addresses so that they can be included on the register, which will be published by 1 December 2009.
If your property has not received a form, or you require further advice on the completion of the form, please contact the Electoral Services Helpline on (01304) 872344.

07:5430607A chap came to my door about this last night with my renewal form all prepared on a clipboard. I simply signed it and away he went. I dont remember them doing that before. I always get the form in the usual way fill it in...its an easy form to do, and away it goes with the postman. Nowadays though there are new ways to register.
But this time I had the personal service treatment. This may be however, coming back down to earth with a bump, that Ive just not filled it in the usual way this time, as I have a backlog of post to deal with, and they are keen to get the required quota in from the absentminded/ lazy populace.
So fill in your form guys and get it back

07:5730611I think this is the most exciting election for a while Keef. Previously Tony Blair almost cakewalked everything and quite deservedly too as he was going great for a while there, and was such a huge change from the Thatcher era which still lingered on and on after Thatcher. But as with all premiers, even now you can see it happening with the saintly Obama, their star fades in time.
Can a determined but bedraggled Gordon Brown stem the Tory Tide or is it all too late.??

09:2730625labour have had their lot in my opinion, just a matter now of the turnout and how well the smaller parties do.
nigel farage done his cause no harm on "question time" yesterday.
came across as smug and glib as usual, but looked like he had fresh ideas as opposed to the others on the panel.

10:3530631PaulB - Tony Blair did so well that we and our children are set to pay the price of him entrusting the nations finances to the worse and most incompetent Chancellor in our history.
As PM Blair was responsible for that and the most interfering busy body Government in our history. As PM for the first 10 years he carries the can for the whole mess they created and the leadership vacuum filled by Brown when he (Blair) ran away from the problems he created.

12:3330637Lets get into a few boring posts then to level things up, can't let uncle Barryw have all his own way.
Maggie did the most damage ever to the working man /woman ANd still we live through the mistakes she made.
To name a few
1; weakening trade unions to try to make them in effective thankfully trade unions
learnt how to modernise and still work for the employees they represented
as a modern trade unionist i wouldnt want to go back to those early days of
strikes etc, but maggie went to far and now we see employers just sacking
people when they feel fit, and abusing workforces.
Thankfully we have such things as the minimum wAGE which has helped,
But iv warned before on here we are heading back to the victorian days of
begging for a job, not something that will inspire workforces of the future
2; Right to buy, a complete failure for councils, (carried on by labour) selling off
the nicer council houses, now councils are left with only the houses they
coudn't sell, and a big, big housing waiting list, which will get bigger and
bigger because the council has less and less council homes for them.
there for starters

13:0230641Keith - you and your reference to 'working man' is typical old fashioned and divisive old Labour speak.... It was a daft expression in the 70's and is even more so now.
The Unions were as big a menace to your 'working man' as to the econonomy and the public as a whole, overmighty and irresponsible, bringing them back to reality was one of Mrs T's greatest achievments. Your minimum wage has created a 'norm' that is holding down many people's income but then keepiong people poor, on benefits and dependant upon benefits is in the political interest of the Labour Party.
Right to Buy allowed people who never thought they would ever be able to own their home to buy and was a great leveller that transformed many estates for the better.
If we are heading back to Victorian days (utter nonsense but you said it) then that is down to the Labour Government that has been wrecking the economy over the last 12/13 years.
There, thats for starters......
