It will indeed be interesting to see how much will come to Dover; if Paul W has anything to do with it, we'll get our fair share.

no doubt paul will pull out all the stops roger but there is not a lot of money to be spread over a large county.
i saw jeremy birch from hastings council on the box the other night saying that they had put in bids and ended up with nothing.
hastings have a track record of putting in good proposals then spending the money wisely.

I am pleased this area was successful with this bid and I am sure it will be wisely spent.

the area has not been successful gary, the money covers all of kent.
it will be a free for all with everyone pleading poverty, add to that a large proportion will go on rail improvemenrts between ashford and ramsgate.
what will be left could be very little.

The criteria for grant aid is major private sector match funding & guarantees of jobs over 2-3 year period otherwise it has to be returned.
A lot of schemes from Round 1 of the scheme have fallen foul of the criteria and put wishlist applications in and had their bids withdrawn.
This is not for local authority bidding.
So folks if you know of budding local businesses [not sure of types of businesses who qualify] who could succeed and provide new jobs the encouragement is there.

thanks for info paul, do we assume that k.c.c. hold the funds and businesses present a case to them?

In the first instance Howard. KCC Regeneration Dept.
They have a high powered private sector business panel vetting the applications.

Paul.
What about Hadlow College at Betteshanger?
We have been waiting for someone like them to show an interest in this site for over twenty years now.

Hadlow did not make it Gary.
East Kent bid got the nod [but we will wait and see].
We are quite bitter about that one.
Had better qualifying criteria than East Kent model. Already had privater sector buy in [signed up].
We are now moving into alternative models of funding.
I believe it will happen albeit at a slower pace.

As much as Dover business people/entrepreneurs want to make of it.
If they have a job creating project and are prepared to back their judgement then there is a fund to support them.

Well thank you for that Mr Watkins ,so now lets see the business act on it. But some Dover Business do have a very good order book with work coming in all the time,Mr Watkins one knows one of them himself after he went round it himself afew years ago.You never hear about that company but they are a Dover company and the work they turnout is very very good.About 70 or 80 work there so it is not a small company. And that one is not the only one there are more also some in Deal also doing very well. The main thing is do not forget you must get out there to get the work it will not come to you. I am now talking about Business not the workers, most of them are doing that now. It is hard for both but do not give up keep at it .
