Last collection day I put out the four boxes - paper,glass/tin, plastics and food waste. Three were collected by two seperate lorries and the paper was not collected at all. The food waste bin is put out over night because it can be locked and so is safe from the foxes who use our gardens on a daily basis. The other boxes go out early in the morning, early = 08.00hrs!
Today the paper was collected, at 07.40hrs, before I put it out and the remaining boxes collected at aprox 10.00hrs.
So, if I put the boxes out the night before I run the risk of the foxes, gulls etc having a party and making a mess, if I put them out in the morning they may or may not be collected at all. So what is the rule here? Are collection times fixed or random? and why are some boxes not collected at all? This is in the Westbury area.

Phil, collections can be any time after 7 but you're not supposed to leave it out overnight, breach of our Human Rights to a lie-in if you ask me!

No mention of timing on this page, but it is the same here in Hackney;not out overnight, out by 06:30 hours...yea right!

When we used to get an early collection we always put the lot out the night before as did several of our neighbours.
Now our collection time has changed to the afternoon there is a lot more time for the rubbish (put out early by those who go to work) to blow around on a windy day.

i put mine out the night before because of the reasons stated here, foxes and gulls would have no interest in bottles, tins and plastic.
intrigued as to why phil has 4 containers rather than 3.
barry's blog earlier carried a feature on what happens with the recycled stuff, worth a read no politics in it.

DDC Waste Services always say put the waste for collection out by 07.00 even if the bin-men don't collect before say 12.00.
I do know that sometimes the bin-men are out collecting quite a bit before 07.00, which can be a pain if you are the one they visited early.
Would you like me to forward your posting to them Phil ? I am one of your Councillors, so it will be appropriate for me to do so.

When they changed or collection time we were told via the leaflet to put the rubbish out by 7.00, bit daft really as now they collect at about 2.00pm.
