As football is much in the news at the moment..what with the Harry Rednapp trial and the Fabio Capello resignation..here is another one of a very topical nature and all about money.
That well known financial house Deloitte have released the latest figures which show the richest clubs in Europe...which probably means the richest in the World.
The BBC say the following...
"Real Madrid's revenues of 480m euros (£401m) topped the Deloitte league table of the world's richest football clubs for the seventh straight year.
Deloitte's Football Money League, based on data for season 2010/11, says Real will match Manchester United's eight-year record if they stay top next year.
Real's arch-rivals Barcelona remained in second place, ahead of Manchester United, who stayed third.
Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Chelsea are fourth, fiifth and sixth respectively."
Here we are..the actual listing............
Deloitte Football Money League
***************************
1. Real Madrid: 479.5m euros
2. Barcelona: 450.7m euros
3. Man Utd: 367m euros
4. Bayern Munich: 321.4m euros
5. Arsenal: 251.1m euros
6. Chelsea: 249.8m euros
7. AC Milan: 235.1.m euros
8. Internationale: 211.4m euros
9. Liverpool: 203.3m euros
10. Schalke: 202.4m euros
As you can see there is still a lot of money floating about. A talking head yesterday said on Sky News that Fabio Capello had been paid so much money for mediocre success that it would make a banker blush.
Although some of these clubs make a lot of money, equally at the same time many of slightly smaller stature are deep in debt and some even going bankrupt.

surprised to see two german clubs in the rich list as they do not get much revenue from broadcasting, live matches are on free to air t.v. there.

Yes interesting Howard...I was certainly surprised to see Schalke in there as they are not exactly a household name. Well known team of course in devoted circles, but the other nine there have the whiff of legend about them. Ah...I remember those boyhood dreams of the all white Real Madrid..what a team they were. The current dream team sits at number 2 in the list above...they sport the worlds best player right now...Lionel Messi.
Such joy watching him...

The German clubs do not fleece the fans either, admission prices much lower than here.

i stand corrected paul.
when they say rich list what criteria do they use?
for example man utd are millions in debt and last time i looked liverpool seemed to have problems.
i can only assume they base it on money coming in.

Yes I think its just based on revenue per year. Income in. Real Madrid are making more than everyone else yearly and have done for the past 7 years by the looks of it. Before that Manchester Utd were the top revenue makers because when you have a pin up boy star on your books it boosts the revenue bigtime. That particular era is over now for Man U because in their case it was of course David Beckham as pin up boy. However they are still doing pretty good with 'income in' but have lost that top slot for some time now as we said.
Helen mentions there above team value for the Dallas Cowboys which is probably a different aspect....worth and revenue not quite the same.

Well in keeping with what you said above there re football debt Howard...the news is just coming through that Glasgow Rangers are pondering going into administration. They have filed papers. This is shock horror news for football and a grim reminder of pending financial doom for some clubs. But Rangers are by far the biggest club ever to hit trouble on such a scale. The story is still breaking....no doubt more to come.

hard to believe that one paul, even harder to believe was the statement from auld firm rivals celtic that scottish football would be lartgely unaffected if rangers went down the pan.
it seems that they think that sky tv would pay the same money for matches against motherwell or st mirren.
