This can only lead to a rise in the cost of tickets, to cover the extra amount of lost fares. While it is true that many of the stations on the list have not sold a ticket for years, the presence of even a part time ticket seller does allow some confidence. Deserted stations will quickly become large open toilets and stopping points for those avoiding paying any fares.
There is also the fact that the on-board ticket inspectors will be expected to carry more cash, in taken fares and a float of change, as well as having to deal with a lot more card transactions. At the same time, will there be extra security for the ticket inspectors? It will soon be obvious that they are carrying money and that makes them a target.
