Railway Comms !!!
- 6 December 2010 11:5783421Yesterday my Husband and young son having checked the website for train times, walked to Kearsney Station from Whitfield to catch the train to Canterbury.
After waiting at the station for half hour they realised the train probably wasnt coming, looking around there were no notices up or visible telephone numbers to ring.
It was extremely cold and faced with the long walk back up Whitfield Hill, he phoned my uncle a retired British Rail manager, who phoned someone else to find the trains had all been cancelled but a bus service was running
Eventually they did manage to get a bus but surely there could have been a communication on the website, or a notice up at the station to avoid them waiting around for hours in the freezing cold !! - 6 December 2010 12:0283423walking past priory station yesterday i noticed 4 double decker buses outside presumably to take rail passengers.
maybe south east trains could send us info so that it can be posted here?
would be beneficial to them and their customers. - 6 December 2010 17:3083449Sheli on Radio Kent yesterday they said Buses Folkestone to Deal,they didn't mention Dover to Ramsgate,I had to phone up and inform Radio Kent and then they started to announce it,who is your Uncle who is the old Station Manager,it is not Fred is it?If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
- 6 December 2010 20:4783507Hi John he wasnt the Station Manager I dont think! worked for British Rail all his life until retirement. Bill Lawrence. He was a Guard until he was promoted and then went into the office!! Not sure exactly what he did there though - sorry.
It was great back then as wherever I was in the country (boarding school) he would come and see me and bring me back to Dover and those old British Rail overcoats came in handy in the Winter doubling as eiderdowns

and i honestly think they are idiots at the moment, they just ignore all the other users on the road, it wouldnt be so bad but they block the road regularly up here. - 6 December 2010 22:1683523Sheli Bill is a mate of mine and his son Paul kicked holes in me when we played football.As far as the buses go they use the cheapest usually.
If you knew what I know,we would both be in trouble!
