I find the worst places to be Maison Dieu Rd and London Rd, the former resembles the start of a grand prix at the lights next to the veterinary surgery. Many build up such a head of steam that they cannot stop at the pedestrian crossing outside the magistrates court.

Fully agree with Oliver. Outside his shop is particularly bad. If you are trying to cross from my side of the road by the bus stop you take your life in your hands. There is a slight bend in the road and speeding drivers can't see you until they are almost on top of you.
Some months ago in fairly light traffic I was crossing the road with plenty of time to spare. A car came out of Beaconsfield and rapidly accelerated towards me with the driver shouting what could only be described as ageist abuse. Had he been travelling at a reasonable speed I would not have been in his way. His car had a "cherished" number plate. I won't ever buy his chips again.

That reminds me of another story:-

When I was involved with the LRCF I also tried to get a crossing. The traders were against it however as it would have meant no parking outside their shops.

Surprised there hasn't been more accidents in Frith Road with some of the driving I have seen there.

That is par for the course Brian, he would have restarted his crazed pursuit at those lights. Funny bit in the link on Terry's post 3 where the little girl thinks Sue has been in politics for 100 years!!

We should adopt the system used in many towns in France. On roads where people are likely to speed, there are radar detectors which check the speed of approaching traffic. If the vehicles are above the limit (even by 1km/h) the detectors trigger a set of traffic lights which turn red for 30 seconds. The penalty for running the red light is €150 fine and 6 points.

We have
Kent Police Speedwatch - taken up in a lot of villages and effective but needs committed volunteers.
