Beacon being lit at River recreation ground 8. 30 pm followed by fireworks.
Not a royalist myself but would concede that the queen has done her job well, but the whole thing looks rather dated and a slimmed down royal family similar to other European nations must be the way forward.

Are you talking about a cull Howard, surely its size is dictated by the number of sprogs they have?

Thinking more about the cousins and hangers on being paid on the civil list Reg, given titles and rarely carrying out public engagements.

Things have changed Howard, the "hangers on" have to virtually fund themselves except when they are on royal duty.
"The civil list does not directly fund the duties of other members of the Royal Family such as Prince Charles, whose income comes largely from the Duchy of Cornwall, though they do receive grants-in-aid funding for official duties, such as transport costs."

Fair point about the civil list Jan but there are leeches that receive funding due to their title and connections. A good example is Princess Michael of Kent who carries out no duties but spends Wimbledon Fortnight in the Royal Box indulging her hobby, even handing out trophies. A rich American or Russian Oligarch would pay millions for that.
