Yes Howard, here is an update on my pumpkin:
Has been cut off the plant, and dragged on a board a little way to our shed, pulled up on a ramp, and into the shed where it sits, resplendent, a lovely orange colour,
sagging on one side like an overfilled beer belly, but very firm hard outer skin.
It is waiting for the 22nd of this month when we have the weigh-in at Tilmanstone Village Hall at the end of the village market 10.30am. (Market starts at 9.30am)
It is larger than the one I grew last year, and has grown quite well, despite what it says in this report in the daily mail.
A friend told me on Saturday that her pumpkin has just developed a soft patch of rot, but I don't know how the others have fared. We shall see.
At a guess I would say mine is now 50 lbs but maybe up to 60 lbs, without having weighed it. (being optimistic !!)
Another competitor has also harvested hers, and put it safe, to avoid it being nibbled by the rabbits, squirrels or other creatures.
I will photograph them all on the day of the weigh-in. There is also a competition open to anyone, for a carved pumpkin from one grown, or purchased.
