Howard. Problems with harvest in Canada too + change in diet of Indian/Chinese 'middle class' pushing up prices (especially sugar).(The Singapore Toys and Confectionery Dealers' Association said a tonne of sugar is now priced at S$1,100, compared to S$680 in June - an increase of about 60 per cent. 27/10 Singapore News)
Yes milk dirt cheap because loads of dairy farmers being screwed by supermarkets who are paying less than 30p/litre, indeed many dairy farmers have sustained losses over many years, saved from bankruptcy only by the asset of their farms. We are losing two dairy farmers every day. Fifty per cent of our farmers have gone out of the industry over the decade.
The same is happening with bread. This week Tesco dropped 12 Hovis lines as they refused to pay Hovis increased price due to increase in grain prices.
You have to remember that the UK is only 60% self sufficient in terms of food and with the idiots turning food into ethanol to feed cars + the increased purchasing power of India/China it will only get worse.
