The Dover Society, which has membership of just under 500, is in regular communication with both DTC and DDC. It is a highly respected non-political organisation both within the community and the various Authorities it has contact with.
I sought agreement to post (291) following meeting last night because I felt the Dover Forum was a sound platform to express the view of the Society and that this be known to the many DDC and DTC Councillors who view the site and respect the non-political views of the Society.
With so many posts on this subject (mainly political by a few) has been in the main political muck-slinging and I wonder if in fact this has influenced anyone.
My own personal view is there is a need for facilities but should Dover Town Ward ratepayers foot the entire bill ? The meeting will almost certainly have people who are not within the Dover Town Wards and I question should they decide what other people should pay (see post 297 from Sue), do not forget DTC ratepayers had a near 30% precept increase by DTC two years ago. Also Dover is already the highest rate in the District.
It must be remembered this is just the start of DDC passing things to Town and Parish Councils.
Ceratinly if DTC take on the toilets these should be "pay toilets" in order to generate revenue and reduce maintenance/costs (see my post 90)
