Are we overcrowded? A report by the Institute of Economic Affairs highlights (what anyone who has ever flown over the UK will be able to tell you) that ONLY 10% of the surface of England is developed at all! "The rest mostly consists of woodland, grassland and farmland". In this 10% the greatest use of land is for gardens. Land which is actually concreted over, accounts for one twentieth of the whole of the English surface area. These figures are representative for the 'developed' south east as well as the 'desolate' north east (or north west!).
Beware of newspaper headline writers and gesture politicians!
