We keep hearing the words "are our council using parking charges as a cash cow?" on social media. Of course they are, the world and his dog knows that central Government has been cutting funding to local authorities year on year and then restricting how much they can raise council tax. There could be raised admission charges to leisure centres/ swimming pools etc but that wouldn't amount to much. There are so many cars looking for somewhere to park so that is the obvious target.

Since free bus passes came in many over 65s save their car for days out or visiting family members then use the bus for day to day trips into town leaving more car parking spaces free. There are many free spaces five minutes walk from the town centre but in modern times that is seen by some as a marathon journey.
