If a car is uninsured then it is taken off of the road to prevent it getting driven again. There is a cost for the owner, or someone with permission of the owner, to pick it up. They must also provide proof of insurance as well. There is a daily charge for storage and if it is not picked up in usually 14 days the car can be destroyed.

I think what really needs to be looked at is the way this country deals with insurance. Why not, like most of Europe, insure the car not the person? There are conditions with this of course but it works so well elsewhere.
