Just reading in the Dover Express about the proposal to have private security patrolling the streets of River, wonder what our new Police Commissioner would think about that? is it the right way to go now that the blue line is at breaking point? apologies if this has already been discussed but there are so many threads now it is hard to keep up.

Being quite close to one of the protagonists in this, I happen to know that the proposal is that River Parish Council would use the £14K refund (I think that's the right figure) from Kent Police to pay for it. River Council paid for the services of a PCSO which Kent Police can no longer supply, so the proposal was to use the refund to pay for a local company to act in loco Police(sic).
Feelings seem to have been running quite high over this, but it seems a perfectly sensible option to me.

It was discussed at a recent meeting of River Parish Council.Twenty residents were present and in straw pole rejected the idea.It will be brought back to the AGM next May .River Parish Cuncil would have to fund it .

14 grand will hardly get much in the way of man/woman hours especially as they would need a vehicle.

As I am the person behind this one and still working on it,the funding would come from the council and what I have planned £14000,we are saving would be more then it would take.Mrs Nicholas was not at the meeting, but we do have a second district cllr coming to our meeting and she was there last week,as she does not post on any forum you will not get a report from her.And at this time there is nothing to report,I will also be talking about it on other councils I sit on. Thank you.

What sort of coverage would you get for £14000 Vic? can't understand why cash strapped Kent Police have turned down a subsidy for a PCSO who would no doubt have worked in another area as well.

it would help residents if the report on the subject was posted on the parish council website.

We will still get PCSO COVER but the same as other parishs, because we were paying half the amount we had the use of the PCSO for the full 37hours aweek unless she or him was needed in Dover on a call out,but it was not working for River because the PCSO was been taking away more times then she was in River, police will still come round at times,I and some others feel we need more cover then what we will get doing that way,but time will tell.I do not think I can add anymore at this time, thank you for your email.
