Had my first experience of it this morning excluding the original consultation.
St Saviours Hospital just outside Hythe is an attractive building set in pleasant grounds with ample free parking. All cataract surgery patients have to arrive by 7 am which is a problem if you haven't got a car as buses cannot get you there for then.
I was seen almost immediately by a nurse that went through the usual heart rate, blood pressure, tests, temperature taking and questions on medical history before being administered various types of eye drops from different people.
The surgeon then came into the waiting room, explained the procedure and got me to sign his get out clause. Not long after I was taken in to the operating theatre and 20 or so minutes later it was over. I was taken to a recovery room where I was served with a pot of coffee, complete with china cup and biscotti.z
About 20 minutes later a nurse came in with all the paraphernalia needed to get shot of me, eye drops, information sheets and letters for my GP and optician. All done and dusted by 8. 30 am.

Indeed Judith I got the distinct impression there that the staff were happy in their jobs, busy but not stressed out like you see sometimes in N.H.S hospitals.
A few years back I had a colonoscopy at the Kent and Canterbury and the bloke in charge couldn't stop yawning, when he finished I asked him whether he was finished for the day and he said he had 4 more to do. I said that he should go home and tell the bosses that I had ok'd it.

My wife had the same operation at Kent and Canterbury last week and received the same treatment as Howard. My stepsons mother in law also had the same operation at St. Saviours last SUNDAY. (overtime job ?).

Last year my wife had a hip replaced at WHH on a Sunday. Much calmer altogether without the usual weekday frenzied inactivity of patients wandering around lost and bewildered and staff bustling to and fro with clipboards or holding top level meetings while blocking corridors.
