  Ken Clarke's proposal to reduce sentences for those who pleaded guilty at the outset seem to have been kicked into the long grass. Is this a u-turn or the sign of a government listening to the public?

  both and not for the first time.
  
  saw dave on the news defending ken clarke in the commons, he clearly sees ken as the man for justice.
  
  mind you he thinks andrew lansley is the top guru for health and vince cable a brilliant business secretary.

  Good news - tougher sentences are needed not softer ones.
  
  Ken Clarke is the wrong person in the wrong place. His days are numbered.

  mind you it could be the equivalent of the vote of confidence that a football manager gets just prior to being sacked.

  I am not sure which it was but I was interested in the dilemma that politicians have created for themselves. Any change of mind/tack is now seen as weakness and whatever the motives will be seized upon by the opposition.
  Perhaps we can hope to see a greater level of maturity amongst those who govern and a preparedness to remember that they are our servants not our masters. But then again..........
