It's becoming increasingly obvious that the DHB have only been paying lip service to their obligations towards the community. The HRO of 2012 which was intended to authorise ferry T2 was altered without further public consultation into a freight terminal. DHB claim saving of 140 jobs and generation of 600 more yet we have seen no independent studies showing how that can happen by increasing throughput of bananas and pineapples, especially with competition from the superior facilities at Thames Gateway. My feeling is that the community won't stand much more of being ignored, taken for granted and trampled over in the pursuit of ever bigger bonuses for the powers-that-be in Harbour House. DHB are dragging their feet on the appointment of community directors, claiming that a new constitutional HRO is needed, then drafting one that flies in the face of everything the Ports Minister laid down in our meetings of April last year, thus delaying the appointments even further. DHB claim to be close to overcoming objections to their draft HRO but not only is that demonstrably false, they have not even approached DPPTL to discuss our objections.

DPPTL has remained on the sidelines recently out of a desire not to embarrass Neil Wiggins, our previous chairman and who is a board member designate of DHB. But enough is enough.
