Just to be clear: The OfSTED criteria has changed some much over the years (there were even three different criteria within a single academic year). Some of these inspection versions put a school in special measures if one of the four core tenets was found unproven - SAFEGUARDING was often an instant fail. Of course, this didn't reflect on the teaching, learning parental appreciation of the school or its standing in the community. The OfSTED goal posts continue to shift and school staff are asked to jump through different hoops at different times - it is little wonder why the profession is in crisis.

The maxim should just be on progress: Where do the children begin, are they progressing, can anything be put in place to accelerate progress.

The table topping story is KentLive does not tell the whole story. It tells attainment not progress and is not necessarily a secure measure.

For anyone with children, how often have you asked that question, "How was school?" or "What did you do today?" Was the reply, "Boring" or "Nothing". Education is more than league tables of attainment and most of the school teachers I have come across are fully aware of how important it is to engage the learner.
