Price of diesel

  Why does diesel cost more than unleaded petrol in the UK?
  In most countries it is the opposite because diesel is considered more environmentally friendly and is priced well below unleaded petrol.
  I am certain UK truck drivers in particular would like to know.

  But I do remember a statement by the government just before every one started converting or new cars out became diesel.
  
  AS AN ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY FUEL IT WILL ALWAYS BE CHEAPER THAN PETROL.
  
  Diesel went mad then they gradually put the price up. They must think we are stupid.
  Well we are aren't we, were paying for it.

  Just for background. We are the only country to pay more for diesel, however the margin isn't huge. What is huge is the difference between what we pay here and what they pay in some other places.
