I see that the police in North Kent are trialling what they call "Predictive Policing". They are going to be using their data of what's happened before to show where it's going to happen again!
They say: "The Force can then ensure that police officers and other resources are in the right place at the right time to either deter the crime or tackle offenders."
What??!!
Are they seriously suggesting that burglars, for example, will return to the same house at the same time the following night or week later to burgle again? Or that someone who nicks an elderly woman's purse from her handbag in one shop in the town centre will do the same thing in the same shop at the same time the next day?
Ah - when we read on we see: "The idea originated in the USA " ... well that explains it.
So, Mr Burglar, please come back this time tomorrow and the police will be waiting for you - or, choose another house a couple of miles away and they won't be anywhere near you!

They seek him here, they seek him there
they seek him then and now
his actions are predictable
as those of any cow
They miss him there, they miss him here
they miss him now and then
they missed him yesterday
they missed him once again
But now their ploy is to lie in wait
and catch him at his crime
and if he fails to take their bait
they'll nick him for his wasting of their time
Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

i haven't seen the full report but would imagine they are referring to known trouble spots i.e. certain pubs that have bad track records, shops or shelters that bored teenagers hang around of an evening, bus stations and the like.

That is what I would have thought as well Howard, I hope it means they will be patrolling known areas of trouble more often than they do now.
Jim, some burglars do return to the same property more than once, many years ago my daughter was burgled twice within a few weeks of each other.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

i was told many years ago by a copper that very often a career burglar will pay a return visit about 6 months later if he/she thinks that the property is still vulnerable. the 6 months covers the insurance claim being sorted and the victim having enough time to buy replacement goods.
