    If China fails to put its enfant terrible on a leash, the "Mutual Defense Treaty Between the United States and the Republic of Korea of October 1, 1953" might be invoked, giving the US the right to station forces in S. Korea; alternatively a few dozen cruise missiles on Kim's nuclear and military facilities might draw his teeth. If either happened, China would make a mighty fuss but be privately relieved.
