Having watched some of his TV cookery programmes I am not all that surprised at the cost, in one he made a cup and saucer of chocolate in which he served the rest of the desert.
I have never even attempted to copy a dish of his as life is much to short but they certainly look wonderful.

The House of the Four Seasons is really the way to go, and following a parallel path - less of a toll road, would solve many of the worlds ills.

indeed lesley especially if it was in a crusty white roll with butter.
even if i was blue barry i wouldn't pay 500 quid for a meal, i would imagine 50 quid would provide a repast fit for a king.

I found a Michelin listed restaurant in the Midlands recently which offers a two course lunch for £14.99 a head. I had their crab and lobster fishcake to start, followed by a Wagyu rump steak. Included in the price was a bottle of beer or a glass of house wine. It was fabulous. You can keep the expensive places.
