    The port police CAN still arrest people despite what the article makes out. It is a matter of transport of the prisoner beyond the mile jurisdiction that is the issue.

    Let's not forget the wider impact of Dover Custody closing. The facility was used by UKBA immigration and customs too. A simple solution would be to re-open Dover Custody. Unfortunately it looks like it boils down to costs as with every other service in this current climate.
