It's been in the news that Ramsgate has secured a long term contract for car transportation, well done to them on that. There is a group that are trying to get ferry companies to resume services passenger and freight to the continent. However well intentioned they are surely if a ferry operator thought it a good idea they would have done something by now? I doubt a petition will have any effect.

If you close your eyes and wish really really really hard you can make it happen! seems someone over there has too much time on their hands.

They are talking about medium sized ferries but it is known they are not economically viable as Trans Europa found out.
Any investment in the infrastructure would be out of Council taxpayers money and Thanet Council have already had their fingers burnt. If someone does bite the bullet and try to run a service from there it would take a bit of pressure off our roads.

Less than a fortnight to go for comments on TDC's 2020 Feasibility Study on Port Ramsgate - for which they got consultants in, as you do. I see the study's executive summary starts "The Port of Ramsgate is strategically important to the region and the country as a whole"and it goes on to say that, despite 3 operators having suffered "financial distress" and there being limited opportunities in the short term, ro-ro should be prioritised as the sole commercial port target user.
I think the only comment that springs to mind is 'you've been robbed'.

The distress at port Ramsgate was not only financial but it cost 6 members of the public their lost of life it was very sad time and Iwas working there on that job when it happen, but yes I have said many times before it .port Ramsgate should reopen to ferrys not much room in the port but all of that can be worked out.

Rather late in the day, I would've thought (even ignoring the economics) - ro-ro berths and their wire ropes like to be used.

...or has access to the Levelling Up Fund (

I do worry about TDC; they start off rationally enough by saying "The last time the port hosted a commercial ferry operation was in 2013. There was also some talk of a new operation which never quite arrived, so some scepticism is understandable."
But then lose it by continuing “So what makes it attractive now? The landscape has changed. Things like increasing fuel costs... improve the case for Ramsgate."

Oh dear. Here's an outline of the 'plans' including link to original application:-
