  a few years back i had to rescue a young song bird from being eaten by my psychotic moggie.
  
  i rang the r.s.p.c.a for advice on what to do, they advised me to put the young one on a wall outside and see what happens. i did this and the very moment the cat was laying the table for dinner the bird suddenly remembered how to fly.
