20:5379869i must admit i was surprised there brian, they seemed immune to changing recreational pursuits, always ahead of the game.

Very surprised to read of this, I had an audition there a last year and the place was buzzing with anticipation and good vibe for the productions planned for the year.
I did not get chosen to appear, but the feeling there was so upbeat i cannot believe that they are in administration.
Oh Boy!, That'll be the day.........

22:0679881Certainly a surprise, The only Family holiday we have had with our 3 girls was at Pontins in Brixham Devon 12 years ago.
We had a great time but found it cheaper to eat out. Still cost me a bloody fortune though.
A great Time just up the coast at Paignton and the largest water slides in the uk. I was all white and wrinkly when I came out.
OK shut it.

Used to go to lots of Northern Soul weekends at various holiday camps round the country (Butlins, Pontins, Haven - they were all great fun)

11:0479901The Chairman of Pontins was on TV this morning and said the bookings are safe and will continue to be so. The company is sound, but the problmems are that the banks not willing to support their short-term cash-flow problems - they supported them last year, but won't do so this year.

12:2379908should be safe to book with them, not one member of staff has been laid off.
the administrators sound very upbeat about them continuing.

10:4579993Looks like another example of Gordon's foresight:-
Prime Minister Has Confidence that Tourism Will Buck the Trend
Pontins have announced a £50 million investment plan, creating 2,000 jobs, for their holiday parks across the UK, with £10 million to be spent at Southport alone. Clearly, they feel the time is right for investing in domestic tourism and John Pugh, MP for Southport, asked Gordon Brown in Prime Minister's Questions on Wednesday (4th February) whether he felt the same.
The Prime Minister replied, "We will continue to do our best to create jobs and to boost the British tourism industry, which, I believe, will do well this summer." 6/2/09

13:4280005Not surprised at all, the holiday village between Blackpool and Lytham St Annes, shut a while now looked a right eyesore when I was up there this year. If you can`t attract the crowds there, I`d have thought there was no hope.
Tell them that I came, and no one answered.
