  i understand what you are saying keith but in the "good old days" we had people making a speech purely to get on the telly or in the newspapers.
  
  i have never been to a conference but from what i have been told they are dominated by two factions.
  
  a) those that love fringe meetings and feeling subversive.
  
  b) those that love a good drink up followed by an unromantic liaison later that night.
