There have been a couple of nasty incidents in our midst over the past few days. Full details, just in directly from the Police, are now showing on our frontpage.
One is an assault in the Funkey Monkey and another is a robbery attempt on a mother and daughter who were both knocked to the ground....more details on each incident on the frontpage. Obviously none of us like to see such things happening so if anyone can suggest anything or indeed if anyone knows anything...the phone numbers are on the frontpage.

Recently there seems to be some going around who are intent on violence is it that we are hearing about it or are there more of these incidents.
One of our younger ladies was with her partner the other night when they saw a group of youngsters picking on a man on his own, I believe the police were called but not sure, then there was Keith's son the other week.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

let's hope it is not a trend, youngsters see things going on in other towns and cities and think it is normal and start behaving in a similar way.

Jan/ Howard I think there seems to be a new fashion for easy violence. You will remember it became the thing several years ago to beat someone up while filming all of it on the new fangled mobile phones. It was like a modern day by-product of the mobile phone culture. Strangers were attacked for the sake of the filming it thrill. It looks like it has continued on from there, but without bothering with the filming. The victims seem to be just isolated people walking home alone and are set upon for no apparent reason. This seems to be what's happening.
In some cases though as we see on the f/p it can just be old fashioned robbery. The message must be if you have any cash dont flaunt it.
Fortunately the Police are very good at getting their message out now, and in the recent crimes here in Dover have had successes on account of it. So it must always be best to help the Police if anything is known as it makes it safer for all of us all round.
The legal system seems to be giving heavier sentences now too.

I hadn't heard that - about giving tougher sentences, I thought that only applied to those London Riots.
Has someone been showing Clock-Work Orange, that's about wanton violence for no reason other than they want to.
There certainly needs to be a strong deterrent to stop it.

The powers that be in the legal system seemed to insist on several occasions that the sentences given for the riots were not increased by either public opinion or government influence. So it could be that sentences are just getting tougher...its probably to match the outrage of public opinion but nobody is admitting that..thats as I understand it anyway. Very apt re Clockwork Orange which was certainly controversial in its day and as I remember just got limited release initially.
Added another Police item to the top of the frontpage this morning..about an unfortunate motorcyclist.

Shocking to read about this kind of violence so close to home, very unnerving indeed. The rule of thumb is never to walk home alone late at night but of course that is not always possible. In the case of the mother and daughter, one would think they would be relatively safe to do so together but it appears not. Thank goodness they were OK. My two daughters, when home from Uni often go down to the Funkey Monkey with their friends, pleased to say they have never encountered any trouble there.
It's good to have this information coming in to us here on Doverforum from the Police, keeps us all informed and maybe one or two of us can help them with more information.
Also terrible to read about the motorcycle crash near Sandwich, the poor chap is only 30yrs old and in a critical condition at Kings in London, hope and pray that he recovers, I wonder if he is a local lad.
Thought I would mention an incident I encountered a couple of weeks ago whilst driving back from Folkestone along the dark end of East Cliff. I was driving alone when suddenly a car ahead of me came to an abrupt stop in the middle of the road and about five young lads jumped out and started bashing each other. They saw my car behind them, they looked very menancing so I quickly did a u turn and got out of there fast. It was quite a frightening experience but I managed to get home safely along another route.
