i wonder if the savings will be as high as stated in the report, after all they are just taking over back office functions.

As G4S are running prisons and ferrying prisoners to and from court, I suppose this was the next step, this gives the police more time to concentrate on policework.

Ah, Howard as sharp as ever. Luckily help is at hand.
Rather chilling to think that we live in an age where the hard-sell is met by such a chorus of approval and support.
And that someone somewhere is planning for 'inevitable' circumstances. For...
"(custody capacity)...be extendable in the event of major incidents or anticipated peaks in arrests and is expected to account for a "major proportion" of the savings, G4S said."
Plainly there are more than BarryW working towards (and planning to accommodate) a Conservative win at the next election.

Only a matter of time before a 999 call is handled by a call centre in South Africa or India.

As I have already found out that the receptionists at DDC are unaware of where Aycliffe is, even asking if it was in Kent, having an emergency response sent to a ghost town in Utah would seem appropriate.
Politics, it seems to me, for years, or all too long, has been concerned with right or left instead of right or wrong.

One 999 call a few months ago found an operator who needed Stembrook, Pencester and co-op spelt out to her. The time that took could have meant the poor drunk I found with slashed wrists bled to death. He didn't, but that was because the Bill were already on the case.

There is no substitute for local knowledge, even when it comes to planning local services. I was involved a while back in planning some local services for elders and knowing where the hills and bad roads are made all the difference (and meant we could "instruct" the external service provider better).
