"Independent candidate Ann Barnes is well on course to become Kent's first police commissioner this afternoon.

The former Kent Police Authority chairman has won all the county votes declared so far by huge majorities.

The Conservatives are conceding their candidate Craig Mackinlay will lose by a "significant margin".

Ms Barnes gave Mr Mackinlay a battering in the first vote - securing 8,148 votes in Ashford to his 3,630.

She has gone on to win Dartford, Dover, Maidstone, Tunbridge Wells, Shepway and Sevenoaks.

One of her biggest victories was in Maidstone, where Ms Barnes beat Mr Mackinlay with 10,762 votes to just 4,310.

Ms Barnes would win in the first round of the count at Dover town hall if she can secure 50% of the overall vote."
