The old gardeners will tell you if they don't flower well they've got either too much or too little nutrient in the soil - you find out which by adding loads, it'll either grow like billy-o or die.
We inherited two in our garden, they came out last year as not worth the space and bother.

love to know how you got them out ray, i tried about 7 years ago and the roots were such that a jcb digger would have been needed.

They do take up such a lot of room you could have full of other types of flower.

another problem with mine with it being at the front against the pavement is that it traps litter blown in and stays there until the leaves fall in winter.
i was hoping someone would give me the name for it,i can never remember.

Peonies!
This tells you how to grow them, would be interesting how you got on if you phoned up and asked how to get rid of them

I would cut it back when it has flowered and paint weed killer on the stems, that should work.

I try to be neutral and polite but it is hard and getting even more difficult at times.

We have a few peonies and they are beautiful when in flower, but they tend to fall over quickly because the flowers are too heavy for the stalks; most are pink as above, but some are just off white - rose pink.

sitting out the front having my elevenses earlier 4 different people stopped and commented on them, i felt a bit bad about trying to dig them up in the past.
i might take up jan's suggestion in the dead of night then blame their demise on vandals.
