That's our SuperJoyce's website. Well done indeed to her for highlighting a little-known tragedy.
Up at St Mary's cemetery there are graves, and on the upper level a memorial in the shape of a gravestone, surrounded by lawn, where several of the casualties are buried. Pics of thegraves and memorials, and memorabilia too of this terrible event are on Joyce's site in a fascinating gallery.

Not all the victims were European. About twenty of the crew were 'Lascars' from the Indian sub-continent. Their coffins, draped in Union Jacks, were placed in transport wagons supplied by the local military garrisons and transported from the Market Hall headed by the band of the East Surreys to St Mary's Cemetary where they were buried in the non-conformist section. The bearers were from the local regiments and the parade was followed by the Dover Anti-Aircraft Corps. The group were buried with full Muslim funerary rites into one large grave dug by the Royal Garrison Artillery with the heads placed to the east.
(Ooops - just notice the full version of the above is on the website).

Avery sad story, but a very good captain I think if it had not been for his cool thinking at the time many more would have died.

Thanks Scotchie for bringing this to our attention.
Very tragic for those who died and of course their families. Looks like they were all given a very respectful send-off.
Looking on the gallery of the web-site, it was a beautiful ship inside.

i must admit that i was impressed by the efforts to give the muslim victims a proper send off.
must have been very few muslims here in those days to advise on how it needed to be done.
