something didn't seem quite right this morning as the people doing the planting did not have any uniforms on or anything bearing a logo. then i received this e mail from town councillor pat sherratt who has given me permission to post.
hope everyone is as impressed as i am over this, we hear all about the "big society" from on high, finally we get a great example of people power here in dover.
Hi Howard
See you have a post on this.
Fantastic this morning as we planted up the town (my wife and I doing the planters in front of St Mary's and opposite Eight Bells (hope they do not get vandalised).
SYLVIE PARSONS a resident in Norman Street organised it all with the help of plants being supplied by Darren Solly of DDC. Some DTC allotment holders and others volunteered (friends of Sylvie and Dover Society), in all about ten people. Sylvie has secured support for watering from various shops including M&S, Bairstow Eves, Nat West Bank (others but not sure who). Certainly the Manager from M&S was out helping to plant up.
It was a great "community activity". After the Shopping area we went to the flower bed behind St Mary's Church (opposite Roman Quay PH) and having been supplied with red and white geraniums decided to attempt to create a "St Georges Cross". Not quite enough white geraniums but Darren has promised some extras and will be completed later in the week.
Sincere thanks must go to Sylvie Parsons as these planters had not originally been intended to be planted by DDC.
Pat
