Planning framework: the madness of overdevelopment

  The South-east of England is already one of the most heavily settled places on earth - why the obsession with building so many new houses in the region?
  
  It reminds me of the insane general in Dr Strangelove who randomly orders a nuclear strike on the USSR - it's as if all logic and common sense has gone out of the window and there seems something quite self destructive about all this Chinese-style crazy over-development.
  
  Just to add tot the agony, the discussion of the main driver of this overdevelopment is a taboo subject with half the population feigning insouciance about it to score brownie points and attacking the other half who mention the elephant in the room.
  
  Some of us understand the value of the countryside but I despair at so many southern English who seem totally oblivious to it and content to sit in their little boxes in some rabbit warren of a housing development leading their atomised little lives through a screen.

  agree with most of that andrew, the population is at an all time high and all projections say that it will continue to grow at a great pace.
  
  no account is taken of the increased demands on the health service, schools,roads, water supplies and much more.
  
  all political parties are equally guilty in that they kow tow to anyone that wants cheap labour that won't answer back too much.
  
  as for insouciance i shall get back to you the minute i discover what it means.
