The South-east of England is already one of the most heavily settled places on earth - why the obsession with building so many new houses in the region?

Just to add tot the agony, the discussion of the main driver of this overdevelopment is a taboo subject with half the population feigning insouciance about it to score brownie points and attacking the other half who mention the elephant in the room.
Some of us understand the value of the countryside but I despair at so many southern English who seem totally oblivious to it and content to sit in their little boxes in some rabbit warren of a housing development leading their atomised little lives through a screen.
