Fair question in my opinion. If one were to build another development in Dover, I know which loss of countryside I should regret the more - Whitfield. How Farthingloe could come to be considered and designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty is beyond me.

The criteria for designation as an AONB are quite stringent. Ironically (in the light of this particular planning issue), such a move requires the prior approval of the local authority.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I suppose. Thank God you don't work for Natural England though.
