This has been talked about for some time now and security sources assure us that they are prepared for mass attacks. The trouble is that London is so vast with so many sporting events, concerts etc that there simply aren't the numbers available to be everywhere at once. It's not like in the past when Irish Republicans gave coded warnings and had no intention of killing themselves in carrrying out an atrocity.

Indeed. It is up to all of us to remain vigilant and hope the security services continue to monitor and break up any planned attacks.

I agree completely. Today's atrocities in Brussels reminds me so much of those awful attacks in London in 2005.

We have to be thankful for all the foiled plots by our security services in the UK, information could have only come from the muslim community who held suspicions about certain people and radical mosques. In France and Belgium immigrants from mostly North African countries have been imported then stuck in terrible living conditions away from the rest of the people creating conditions that give rise to radicalisation.
That is not in anyway an excuse for atrocities but it shows that except in small pockets we do not deserve to have the same threat as other countries.
As already said a lot is up to us to be aware of people around us.

For God's sake Howard. So 'we' are once again responsible for 'their' murderous behavior? I think not.
You do realise that so far in 2016 there have been there were 469 Islamic attacks in 38 countries, in which 4661 people were killed and 5205 injured. All due to 'terrible living conditions'?

Clever piece of selective quoting Bob, now try harder to read my post, it wasn't very long.

Read it Howard thanks.
Firstly you give an 'excuse' for atrocities and then say it's not an excuse.
Perhaps it's about time we admitted there is something 'wrong' with Islam?
Notwithstanding any terrorist connections it has managed to bring the Arab world, which used to be leader, to a standstill in science and mathematics for over a millenium and with its dislike of figurative art meant that Islamic so-called art had been reduced to making rather nice patterns one might find in a children's colouring book.

There is no excuse and I repeat no excuse for any atrocity committed by terrorists, regardless of their religion, where they are from or what their living conditions are like.

A good day for irony however!
'A convicted IRA bomber has been forced to cancel an event in the European Parliament today commemorating the Easter Rising because of events in Brussels. Sinn Fein MEP Martina Anderson has emailed colleagues:
A chairde,
In light of the tragic events at the Brussels-National Airport and at metro stations in the Brussels Capital Region, the event “Gallant Allies in Europe” has been cancelled.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of all those affected by these terrible events.
Stay safe and look out for each other.'
That is the same Martina Anderson who served part of a life sentence for plotting a bombing campaign in 12 English seaside resorts. The former IRA terrorist was part of the gang which planned “bomb a day” terror attacks on London and resorts across England.'
What goes around comes around as our American friends say.
One can only hope that the authorities in Brussels are right now talking to 'community leaders' to reduce local tension in such a vibrant and diverse ....... etc etc.

Having lived and worked in Brussels it is not a case of the North African migrants "being stuck" anywhere.
Belgium is one of the most welcoming and accommodating countries I have had the pleasure to live and work in. The social compact that Belgium (& The Netherlands) operates is simple and works. There has been a large Turkish Muslim community in Belgium for well over 40 years that has worked hard to advance itself and rubs along very well with Christian and secular Belgians, as has the Congolese & Senegalese communities. The North African/Arab migrants have too often chosen to hold themselves apart from the rest of Belgium and has not been prepared to operate a basic level of tolerance of difference. They have if anything self radicalised and alienated themselves from Belgium and its way of life.
There is no excuse for criminal activity (which is what this mornings actions were), no matter what the perceived historic or current provocation by the western allies.
Having said that we really do need to stop interfering in others affairs unless specifically invited by those nations or requested by the UN to form part of a Blue Beret peace keeping force.

So why is Molenbeek a no go area(the Belgian authorities admit that) and why is it common knowledge that anyone can walk in and buy an AK 47 without any questions asked?
Ross doesn't mention the "suburbs" of many French cities and towns also "out of bounds".

Ye Gods.
1. Brussels outrage
2. Home Secretary announces extra vigilance from Border Farce.
3. A total of 52 suspected migrants are being held after two lorries were stopped in different parts of Kent today.
4. Bangs head on wall and screams in despair.

So much for the increased security at the port.
I know it would cost a fortune to implement but all vehicles now need to be opened and inspected. It might even save money in the long run with these migrants receiving no costly NHS treatment, housing or other benefits.
