Good news indeed.
"...now Dover District Council has agreed to push forward with the plans and is set to put just over £80,000 of its own money into the scheme."

Ignorance is bliss, bliss is happiness, I am happy...to draw your attention to the possible connectivity in the foregoing.

The last paragraph has an ominous ring to it.
In other words just keep the grass cut

All good news for Dover - a lot of work has gone into this and it will be great to see it come to fruition
Been nice knowing you :)

Wont affect the town one bit, they should concentrate on the economy, everything else then takes care of itself

It will be opening up our countryside and making the most of our heritage - people DO come to see what we have, stay and spend money in our town.
Stay-cations are all the rage now and we need to jump on this opportunity.
Just look at the visitor numbers to Langdon Cliffs and Samphire Hoe, they are doing well...

People dont spend money on Langdon Cliffs, they go for a walk and a lovely view. Get the town regenerated first and we'll all go for a nice walk later

What does 'regenerate' mean? What will you do?
If it means a massive 'clone' shopping centre at St James then I'll go to Dover less....

Well Paul, take the Turner Gallery in Margate, it has brought tens of thousands of visitors to the town who spend money there, it helps to make the town more prosperous. Look at all the empty shops in Dover and the unemployment figures, regeneration means making the town appealing to visitors.

two seperate issues here.
firstly 80 grand spent on regenerating the town would come up with nothing that would make a difference, whilst spending it on enhancing our countryside means much more dosh being spent that doesn't come out of our pockets.
as has been said samphire hoe and the langdon cliffs are attracting record numbers of visitors, any work done at these places and the western heights means that future generations of dovorians and visitors will benefit.
the redevelopment of the st james area has been covered on many other threads.
