just been reading that the foreign office is making contingency plans to reptriate britons from spain and portugal should the banking systems collapse in those two countries.
over a million in spain and 50,000 in portugal.
if banks collapse then it is quite possible that homes would reposessed, will be a problem housing them all here.
whitfield and sholden can only take so many.

Yes, the evacuation plans have been ongoing for some time.
The eurozone crisis cannot be resolved, this has become the latest official news.
The fiscal union, even if it had been agreed by the other 26 EU countries - which in the mean time we know it hasn't - could not have solved the economic collapse of several countries anyeway. Among these Greece, Italy, Spain and Portugal.
My bet is that rationing will be introduced in these countries, for example, many pensions and benefits will be partly paid out in food.
This would involve requisitioning of food directly at the farms or warehouses, with the involvement of Police and military units to ensure that food gets directly to the people in need.
There is no other solution to prevent hunger once the cash starts running out..

strange thing capitalism, our livelihoods seem to be based on paper money and banks coupled with complicated issues over financial matters that few of us understand.
if the worst scenario happens the amount of food, drink and available housing will still be there.
maybe it will be like the depression of the thirties with fresh fruit and veg being destroyed due to "no demand".

Alex you ought to write a novel (or five). Your imagination is obviously fertile enough.

According to the Daily Mail, at the end of January 2012 the European banks could fall in a domino effect. They envisage cash running out and supermarket shelves stripped empty over in southern Europe.
It's feasable that hundreds of thousands of Brits could pass via Dunkirk to Dover, and that is why MoD is preparing RN for the eventuality.
If we sat about waiting a little longer, Peter, without preparations, that wouldn't be good either, would it?

Alex the Daily Mail is a comic not a newspaper, and mostly not to be taken seriously.
