bit odd earlier to see so many around, there was no food that had been left for them and they seemed to be taking turns flying onto the stones in the river then flying back where they came from.
Looks as if they are taking advantage of the slightly warmer weather to have a pre-romantic-liaison shower!!

How else is a pigeon supposed to wash its feet.

Unless they're wood pigeons which are quite tasty when added to the pot

I often have wood pigeons but stcik to the breasts and don't bother with the trotters no matter how clean!

The trotters can be a bit, well tricky to say the least
I've sampled a very tasty recipe for wood pigeon breasts within a pancake tower marinated in Cointreau, excellent

sounds good barry but surely this must hurt those grouse beaters you employ on a seasonal basis?

Maybe they are behaving as a lot of creatures do in the spring, ie. strangely.
Twice this week I have watched a starling trying to get in our nest-box which has a very small doorway! Strange...

Not at all Howard, they are happy with a few flagons of ale and a traditional ploughmans after a hard mornings beating

They might be picking up the very tiny pieces of grit which they need to grind down for their minerals etc so they produce nice healthy eggs.

Jan may be right, birds do need a lot of grit.
