The idea follows the same thinking laid down by the FSA in what I do. It turns what might be a mere academic exercise in some hard to understand percentages into real hard cash that is meaningful when related to what people pay. I expect a lot of people who are on PAYE will have a shock when they see how much income tax and NI they paid over the year and where it is spent. It is not expensive to do and can be easily produced off a computer and tucked in with other tax communications such as tax codes. The hope is that a spot of reality will creep in and the pressure will be on for less taxes, lower public spending and even more so, better more efficient public spending.
Howard - the idea was put forward during the term of the last government and I support anything that adds pressure to low taxes and more efficient and targeted public spending.
